Shelene, systemic family and couple psychotherapist

Hi, I'm Shelene

I'm Shelene, and I have over 26 years' experience in mental health, social work, safeguarding and systemic therapy.

I hold a BA in Psychology, an MA in Social Work, and an MSc in Systemic Family and Couple Psychotherapy. I am registered and accredited as a Systemic Family and Couple Psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I also practise as a Specialist Systemic Family Therapist within NHS CAMHS and run a private practice.

Thrive Together with Shelene offers therapy to individuals, couples and families, and I currently have spaces available for private clients, in-person or online.

My approach

I take a warm, relational and culturally sensitive approach. I draw on systemic, narrative and structural therapy, working integratively to meet your unique needs.

I work with individuals, couples and families, supporting clients with mental health and emotional wellbeing, including anxiety, depression and other emotional or psychological difficulties, as well as trauma, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, psychosis, complex family dynamics and neurodiversity (including ADHD and autism). I have a special interest in supporting neurodivergent people and Black and minoritised communities, and I welcome people from all backgrounds.

My focus is on strengthening relationships, reducing distress and helping you move toward your preferred future at a pace that feels right.

A little about me personally: I am a mother of four, including twins, and in my spare time I enjoy yoga, meditation and reading. One simple ritual I share with my children is the 'yellow rose and thorn', where we reflect on one positive experience (the yellow rose) and one challenge (the thorn) from our day. I often bring this idea into therapy to help clients notice both strengths and difficulties in their lives. Balancing work and family helps me stay grounded and connected, and I bring this perspective into my practice.
